We are a developmental laboratory for original plays and musicals, dedicated to supporting writers through every stage of creation. By providing space, tools, and collaborative support, we enable artists to experiment, refine their work, and advance bold new stories toward production through our programming.
OUR PROGRAMS
CAROLINA PLAYWRIGHTS LAB
The Carolina Playwrights Lab is a professional play development program for playwrights residing in North and South Carolina.
CPL provides a robust set of tools and space for playwrights to dig deep and develop their plays in hopes of taking the next step in the journey to full production.
The 2026 Carolina Playwrights Lab will be held from September 7 – 26! The submission window will be open from April 13 – May 10, 2026!
NATIONAL MUSIC THEATER FOUNDRY
The National Music Theater Foundry is CTW’s national new works development program dedicated to the creation of new musicals.

A Carolina Theatre Workshop Fundraiser
Carolina Theatre Workshop invites you to A Spotlight for New Voices, a special fundraising event on Sunday, May 3rd at The Studio (3027 Barrow Dr., Raleigh). Enjoy a 3:00 PM cocktail hour with beer, wine, and appetizers, followed by a 4:00 PM presentation featuring a reading of The Gray Man, a new musical by Eric Sorrels. Tickets are a $30 donation, with catering by Mitchell Casteel – A Fine Catered Affair.
